Tampere, Finland. The audience at this year's MindTrek competition - an annual competition for digital media content products and services - voted its own favourite. The popular vote went to that age-old content-sharer and true added value provider: The Dog.

One in five Finns, is a dog. 110,000 Finns are members in the Finnish Kennel Club, the national Parent Body for dog-related activities. The Dog is a much loved member of the family and often trained to perform tasks or excel at sports, also deserves its day in the media spotlight. We respect the dogs as domestic animals and their human trainers and conpetitors as their packleaders.

We like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for the support of the Dog Fanciers and voting us number one.

The first international programme production premieres 22 October, 2001!

Working Dog people all over the world recognise the letters "KNPV". This acronym commands the interest and respect, of most of these people, and even those who are not involved in training or competition. If a dog has a KNPV training certificate, it has achieved a high standard and if then it is of KNPV-lines, the dog's genes, also possess exceptional and highly desirable Working Dog qualities. KNPV is the Dutch Police Dog Association and the KNPV Championships video is the very first international production of dogsports-online oy ab ltd.

9 October 2001

Premiering at the beginning of October:

KNPV Championships
's Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands
7 - 9 September 2001

This Dutch Police Dog Association Championships aka KNPV trial, is the most demanding Working Dog Trial in the world. The camera crew were under strickt instructions and for example no umbrellas were permitted nor was excessive camera gear allowed on the field. This meant that only one cameraman and one soundman were to be present.

Friday was designeted as the PH2 level trial day and on Saturday and Sunday PH1 and Object Bevakning that is the Guard Dog Test were held. In all three trials the dog is for example left to guard an object. A stranger is allowed to approach to within 1 meter of the dog. The dog will attack if this boundary is broken by even the slightest amounth. The attack is then terminated as soon as the intruder withdraws again outside the 1 meter perimeter. These dogs got the metric system down to a fine art.

The actual trial is divided in three parts. There is also a very demanding fourth part, the final phase, but participating in that is voluntary.

All the dogs participating in this competition represent the very best in their training level internationally. Capturing the unfolding events was exciting and dramatic. Having been given written permission to film these events we were given explicit instructions on where and how the trials would be filmed. We were not permitted to moove from our assigned positions.

The programme was filmed using one camera unit, from a single camera angle. The camera crew had the best possible director Caya Krijnse Locker, a member of the dogsports-online oy ab ltd Advisory Council. Caya is the first foman to participate as a KNPV trainer, competitor and judge. Caya's own dog stars in a Dutch television police series, playing a police dog under Caya´s instruction. Caya is therefore quite familiar with television productions.
