French Ring Sport belongs to the martial arts of dog sports.
It definitely requires a lot of skilful training of an enduring, bold, agile and high drive dog but most typical
of this sport is it´s challenging bite work which includes unique elements of fight, contest, stress and
competition between the dog and the decoy.
In a French Ring Trial there are always high performance jumps as well as problem oriented obedience exercises
followed by unstandardized, but by the book performed, helper work demanding the dog´s instant and well targeted
responds. The bites are very long and if they aren´t long enough the dog will simply loose points. Stylistics
is not called for. The dog does his job or he doesn´t. The decoy is not helping the dog in any ways. He does
not give bites to the dog but he will do his utmost to prevent the dog from a proper bite. A good French Ring Sport
dog must love to take up the challenges of the trial.
French Ring Sport is fascinating to watch. The jumps are for the dog sports athletes only, the elements of obedience
and control are present throughout the trial and still it is most of all a competition between the decoy and the
dog. The decoy will use all the permitted ways in attempting to be tougher, quicklier and more cunning than the
dog. And vice versa.
